rome, italy native fabio bacchini has been holding it down for underground house music with his label mind travel, but takes a step to the left to give us a hot little ep on transport. the roman disco ep is exactly what it says on the box: no fancy gimmicks here, this release is comprised of four solid disco house jams. the first tune >weekender< is a nice phase guitar loop jam with signature disco pulsating strings amidst the happy snapping snare beats and soul train vocal snips. next is my favorite cut, >money talks<, a straight up disco rhodes organ jam a la the crusaders. add some saxophone in there for points with ladies, and you have yourself a jam. on the flip we have >in the mood< is takes the mood a bit deeper with a nice n spacey groove amidst a rhythm heavy beat. throw some synth strings and keys riffs in there for good measure and there you have it... disco house. sometimes stays within the same formula but brings a more pulsating sound that pushes the music. the tune is still deep and groovy as the ep winds down...

following on from their last two sell out eps, foto recordings (run by ali ooft!) enlist the talents of deep space orchestra for release number three in the catologue. first up >riding in my imaginary jeep< showcases their trademark old synths/modern production aesthetic to full effect, taking in classic drum machines and warm synth lines to produce an epic piece of deep house. second track >sir shina< sees them doing some deft sample-manipution with a big chugging midtempo jam the result. ooft! meanwhile give >riding< the once-over, beefing up the low end whilst retaining most of the musical parts.

northern structures (troels baunbæk-knudsen and lasse buhl) are a copenhagen based techno duo. troels has been making all kinds of electronic music since the age of 14 but focused mainly on a long international drum’nbass carreer under the excentric pyro moniker. lasse is a longtime dj and has been developing his own productions, with a background in soundscapes and organised noise. both share a love for the harder and deeper sounds of techno not often found in copenhagen, taking in a wide range of influences from the early uk industrial and dub tinged berlin sound to jazz, experimental electronica and rock. the ambition is to create a marriage of industrial and organic textures by avoiding strict rules of programming and aiming for more of a jam based musical playground feel.

new kanada hits the quarter century mark with a long, subtle 10-minute analogue jam session. with milosh (plug research/k7) on vocals and melodies, and adam on the mixing desk - the single sided vinyl release is made for the long mix. a real slow burner that climaxes with an emotional payoff at the 5 minute mark. gavin russom meets talk talk. red, yellow and orange.

after several hot tunes on worthy’s anabatic imprint, birminghams tom flynn joins the ranks of the dirtybird crew. i ve battle tested the a-side of this record all around the world. >catch that bird< is a rare mix of deep rooted funk whilst also sounding like a caribbean jungle track pitched down to 126. my favorite!
i d play this ep just on the strength of the a-side but i feel like a lot of attention will also be given to the b-side called >rhode island<. this is a classic piece of deep house with all the melodic elements of a dirtybird jam.
tom sent me at least 7 tracks before i signed these so the guy is certainly prolific and i expect to hear quite a bit more from this up and comer this year.

roman iv is roman flügel. surely, you dont need us to sing you the praise of his various styles. under his roman iv moniker, he always pursued his more contemplative dance floor side. la paloma is exactly that kind of perpetual and lulling marathon jam that recollects his testament tracks (check playhouse and ladomat for further listening) and needs to be followed all the way through. having said that, sa caleta looks for a more immediate hit. with a rigid punch and some greasy layers, you get romans take on the current or recurrent slow motion disco craze. straightened out and cut right to the chase. finally, lucy rolls over again, starts where la paloma ended and makes its way up to a subliminal hookline. for all you digi kids: look for the bonus beat mix tool supreme called 123 bpm. roman iv president

its been a while for mr lovebirds and also the label teardrop to serve some fresh slices of homemade house jam. well, we think it better not to put out every bonus beat we program and rather wait until we have something that really deserves to be thrown in todays pool of musical randomness. do we sound bitter again? sorry, for that … must be the age. so … love & happiness. yeah, i want that and probably everybody does … well here ya go: its a slick slow house bomb with proper oldskool 909 drums and some sliding portamento chords that wont never leave your head!! at least until the breakdown when this track takes you even further back in time to that beautiful intro that has rarely been used more beautifully. its been tested for months now by vincenzo, phonique and mr bird himself and devestated every floor so far. let me put it this way - this is biiiig!!!! flipside is the rain - classic 90ies deephouse with a touch of kerri which we all love right? this has the typical lovebirds warmth that we all need in these modern techno times. and in this autumn too. none other than mr steve bug took care of the remix and delivered a superb very 90ies new yorican style version. keeping the warmth he added some percussion to it and turned this into a nice builder. enough talk … we are very excited about this release and looking forward to your full love on this one. play it loud and everywhere!! and maybe even chart it if youre a good lad!!

veteran sf deep house dude julius papp ventures over to africa for his new release on the classy large label. >bole bantu< is a full-on percussive afro-house jam thats big on percussion, guitars, and native vocals from collaborator samba ngo. full mix, dub and bonus beats included here. if you are into the africanism vibe or papps recent tribal productions, you will be feeling this release big time!

third and final part of the massive longplayer.. fierce and dark techno weapons! berghain proof ! having built up several heavyweight releases on figure already, japanese techno magnate a. mochi stampedes onwards with primordial soup his powerful 9 track longplayer, initially split over three successive 12 records. this collection of simply overwhelming club weapons extends and expands upon some of the themes the producer already explored in his 3 previous eps for figure ringing, gyrating and pulsing with sheer technoid power is fastball, which will be included on the third part of the release. devilishly simple and yet mind-expanding all the same, this is a true underground weapon for true techno lovers. this only leaves the haunting lift-off signal of forced run, and the trance-inducing, reduced jam that is dark matter.

steve bug finally returns to ovum after his 2004 breakthrough houze ep. hard to believe it has been 6 years, but during that time steve has cemented himself as one of the top dj/producers in the world. for the a side, steve brings us my sweet vital angel which is a rocking straight up house jam. great use of vocal sample here and one that will blow up any primetime set. this has been a secret weapon for wink all summer. the flipside as it was shows steve’s techier side. a perfect track for the likes of panorama bar or the womb in tokyo. once again steve shows how minimal can be maximal

here we have yet another vinyl release to supplement the highly anticipated cos/mes album. while the first three singles boasted massive a-sides backed with incredible remixes, this release contains two exquisite album cuts deserving their own slab of vinyl. natural lifespan (acid orchestra mix) is a slice of pure bliss, a mid-tempo jam to which you can hug your friends as the sun rises. on the flip, i-bizan (build the progressive band) rides a stomping and tainted rhythm into a dark den of iniquity. pass the lotion

the first and most important of the four food groups is flapjacks. a great example of this is in bryan jones flapjackin jam low flow. the beats are as thick with butter milk and the bass is fluffy and melts in your ears. the second food group and a perfect complement to the first is syrup. czech republics arco gives us a sugery delight entitled first time, which can be poured or spread over just about everything from toast and flapjacks to spaghetti noodles. this tune has a nice and deep brown maple sound that like syrupy goodness, sweetens up every mix. the third basic food group is eggs, everyones favorite baby animal embryo treat. melbourne, australias house mopper d-t3ch, plucked the perfect egg from his prized chicken with his spoken word groove give & take. in this smooth bumpin scenario, the chicken gives the egg, and d-t3ch takes it and whips it up into a wonder house omelet. the last but certainly not the least of the 4 basic food groups is the bacon. bacon just makes everything better. oregons forrest avery & derty d definitely take the bacon with their super fried, crispy, salty smash hit the perfect beat. this tune does to a club what bacon does to your heart…it clogs dance floors

you just wouldnt write a weird piano melody, put it through all your distortion pedals then write an epic post-disco jam around it. basically that doesnt work… or at least shouldnt… but das moth (aka: tokyo-dwelling dj, producer and punk bassist tim sullivan) has provided us with proof to the contrary in his debut 12 inch release featuring >moon< and the aptly titled >wrong<. yes it works, and its genius. we wont do any more head-scratching on how to describe this release, except to say that the vinyl is an absolute must-have, also featuring proto-house workout from heavyweights kink & neville watson.
